Mexico
The name Onza actually refers to two different cats. For many people it is another name for the Jaguarundi, which is native to much of South and Central America.
Less common but more interesting, it refers to a cat in Mexico that looks like a cross between a puma and a cheetah. There have been only a few verified specimens, none of them captured alive.
DNA tests showed these cats to be pumas, in spite of some morphological oddities. Pumas and cheetahs are related, so perhaps these cats were merely exhibiting some of their more ancient characteristics. They are not currently accepted as a separate species or subspecies.
