Let's get the bad news out of the way first. The writing style of the CBSG site comes across as stilted, so prepare to spend some time sorting through the text. The drop-down menus are great if you know what you're looking for, but way too much mouse play for those who just want to see what's going on with the CBSG. The pictures are nice though and the layout is clean.

When I took some time to dig through the material, the CBSG site turned out some great offerings. For example, I did a search on cheetah, and was presented with two entries, both titled "Reports Listing by Category". Each page presented a different list of PDF reports. I eventually found the Namibian Cheetah PHVA* from February 1996 and the Global Cheetah Conservation Workshop from August 2001. These reports are valuable because they provide a view of what is happening in the world of cheetah conservation.

Other great finds were: Arabian Carnivore CAMP*, Arabian Leopard PHVA, Asiatic Lion PHVA, Clouded Leopard PHVA, Conservation of Lions in West and Central Africa, Felid CAMP, Florida Panther PHVA and Genetics Workshop, Florida Panther Viability Analysis, Iberian Lynx PHVA (in Spanish), Mexican Felid CAMP

* PHVA = Population and Habitat Viability Assessment
* CAMP = Conservation Assessment and Management Plan

Beyond the reports, the site describes in detail the CBSG as an organization, and also includes a directory of zoos.

Overall, the CBSG site isn't the type of place for frequent visits, but it has definite value for the student of conservation who is willing to do a little digging.
