Is cloning a viable tool for wild cat conservation?

Cloning the same cat over and over again would definitely not be useful to conservation. The possible benefit of cloning to cat conservation would be the ability to clone a cat whose genetic material would otherwise be lost.
Cloning seems like the long route compared to just conserving wild populations in the first place, but who knows what methods we might have to employ someday if wild cat populations continue to decline.
